A Distillation Column is an essential piece of process equipment used for separating components in a liquid mixture based on differences in their boiling points. It is widely used in industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and food processing for the purification and separation of liquids.
The mixture is heated, and the vapor rises through the column. As it ascends, components with lower boiling points travel upward and condense at various heights within the column. Heavier components condense and are drawn off lower in the column. This allows effective separation of multiple components.
